We want to inform you about the up-coming national demonstration at the nuclear weapons storage depot at Büchel Air Force Base. This event will take place on Saturday, August 30, 2008, and involve groups and individuals from across Germany. They will demonstrate against the 20 U.S. nuclear weapons based in the Eifel, and the German policy of “nuclear sharing.” (Detailed information and the German Call to the action, “Together against Nuclear Weapons - on to Büchel” are available at: http://www.atomwaffenfrei.de/)
”German politicians should no longer support the stationing of nuclear weapons in Germany. The warheads must finally be removed and destroyed. “This would be an important signal, also to Russia, which has made the removal of all US tactical nuclear weapons in Europe a condition for starting a new round of disarmament negotiations,” said Xanthe Hall, spokesperson for the campaign „Our future - nuclear weapons free”. “Renouncing nuclear weapons in Germany also strengthens the German position regarding countries that are either considering, or already working on, nuclear weapons. We call on the German government to immediately support the removal and destruction of these nuclear weapons.”
Taking part in the rally will be, among others, the psychoanalyst Horst-Eberhard Richter, singer Nina Hagen and actress Barbara Rütting. International guests will also attend, including the Alternative Nobel prizewinner, British peace activist Angie Zelter (http://www.rightlivelihood.org/trident_ploughshares.html) Following the rally Nina Hagen and other bands will play a benefit concert at the gates of the nuclear depot.
